Default Monk questions

Hello all, first post, so im sorry if these questons were asked in a different thread.

I just started my monk this weekend. I decided to almost base it purely on healing, but with a few protecton spells as well. anyway, my questions:

1. i understand the crafting system on how i need to get different items to get new armors, and seeing how i am a monk, what items do i need to upgrade my armor.
2. the guild system. seeing as i am only level 8 is it nessessary to be concerned in joining a guild at the moment, or level up more until i can have better armor and higher level to be able to participate in the PvP arena.
3. also im confused on what types of weapons / weapon combos i should be using. i am using a staff right now that gives +4 or maybe +5 to focus, i am not sure if this weapon suits me best or if there is better items out there that i have not found yet.

again i apologize for asking anything else that was already posted in a previous thread. I am happy to be on this forum and playing an MMO which i think i will enjoy very much.

see you in the game,
Vivi Ourunitia

I dunno. I'm level 20 and without a guild and I PvP fine.

Thinking of joining a guild though, good PuGs are few and far between, almost nonexistant.

There is no one right answer to any of your questions. As for waiting to be in a guild. It is not really something you should wait for, but also not something you should rush into. Being a member of a guild is a commitment...you to the guild, and the guild to you. Over time, you will play with folks who you find have much of the same interest, playing style, and requirements that appeal to you. You may not have found that yet, but in time you will. Be leary of guilds that just spam for new members........I would much rather be in a guild that has few members, but work well together, then have 100 members that were disjointed.
It appears that you are selecting a monk that is steering clear of smiting. A good smitting staff, or rod is about all you will need along with a focus item ( if using a 1 handed rod ) As you level, and get to new areas, you will find items that are better than what you currently have. I tend to favor a 1 handed rod, and then using an ankh or focus item in the other hand. You will need all the energy you can get to lay down healings and protection when needed. Putting your points into protection and healing, you will not be looked at as a damage dealer anyway, so don't worry so much about that for now. Don't ignore devine favor either. That would aid in enhancing your healing and protection spells. There are several great post along these lines, and using a search for Monk will give you much reading. My first character that I leveled up was a W/N, but the one I am working with now, is a lot more fun, and is a Primary Monk.

1)The main material used for crafting monk armor is cloth. To craft specific sets you will need a few pieces of rare material- I can't remember which, offhand.

Tattoos require parchment, which require wood.

My recommendation is to craft the cheapest set possible and move on, saving your money and materials. Craft in Yak's Bend, then *maybe* in Quarrel Falls/Ventari's Dell/Denravi, then in the Desert, then your fourth (any probably final) set in Droknar's Forge. There is a more expensive set you can craft later but it is purely ornamental- it gives the same protection as the set in Droknar's Forge.

2) Find people you like playing with who communicate well, and ask them if they're in a guild. You can do this at any point in the game. Auditioning for a top-flight PVP guild can be tiring and unrewarding.

3) The golden rule (for non-warriors) with weapons is to use the best (highest damage) weapon available to you that you can meet the requirements on. For a warrior your choice will be dictated by which skill line you want to focus on, but within that line you grab the best that's available to you and move on.
Don't worry about upgrading your weapon til very late in the game- the drops you get from doing the missions are very servicable, and if it's your first time playing money is probably scare.
When you get to level 18+ it's probably time to get a max damage weapon- max damage is important here, not mods. Add your own upgrades, and then start looking for your "perfect weapon" whether you choose on looks, inherent mods (different than upgrade parts) or whatever criteria you choose.
